Sweet Tooth: New Ben & Jerry’s Edition

Ben & Jerry's Boston Cream Pie Ice CreamWhat’s your weakness when it comes to a treat? Everybody has one. It’s that food that they can’t turn down. Hungry, full, it doesn’t matter, it always sounds delicious. Well for me and my diet, the one thing that I always crave is Ice Cream. I know I’ve mentioned it before, but Stone Cold Creamery named their sizes right when they used the term “Gotta have it” when referring to Ice Cream. Still, one brand sticks out above the rest for me: Ben & Jerry’s. No other company has the selection and quality of flavors that they do. (Purely my opinion of course)

That said, the company is also always coming out with new flavors. Two of which have caughtBen & Jerry's Milk and Cookies my eye recently. Above is one of the new flavors, and it caused my jaw to hit the floor when I saw it: Ben & Jerry’s Boston Cream Pie. Now I don’t know about you, but when I was a kid, I always fought tooth and nail to get those Boston Cream Pie donuts. The pie itself was never really served around me, but I learned to love the concept from delicious and tasty donuts. When I saw this flavor, and read the description, I had to have it.

It’s as good as it sounds. the actual ice cream tastes like the pie, and has the cream swirling through it. Top that off with my favorite mix in for ice cream (cake pieces) and I’m all over it. This is a must try for anyone with a sweet tooth. Warning: It’s rich!

Now far be it from me to leave the other delicious flavor that I found sitting next to this item in the grocery store out in the cold. Needless to say, this was a day when I walked away from the store with not one, but two pints of ice cream. The other new flavor I tried was Ben & Jerry’s Milk & Cookies ice cream.

For all of you cookie dough ice cream lovers, this is your god. Bow down and worship it. What do you get in this pint? You do get your standard vanilla with hunks of cookie dough, which alone is great. Now step it up. Add chocolate chocolate chip cookie dough hunks to the mix. Now we’re talkin. But wait, there’s more. Also swirl in cookie through the entirety of the ice cream. We have delicious overload people.

Ok, why are you still reading? Shouldn’t you already be half way to your nearest frozen food isle to grab one of these tasty treats? I thought so…

The Cheesecake Factory: Tiramisu Cheesecake

Now this was a piece of cheesecake that fit the bill. I had this with couple of friends after a Red Sox game at the Prudential center Cheesecake Factory. I actually ate dinner before hand, enjoying The Navajo chicken sandwich for the first time. definitely a good dinner on fried bread that was to die for. Back to the cake.

Since I had one of the Factory’s legendary sized meals, I knew that I was going to be pushing it with dessert. I ordered this in hopes that it would not be a ten ton mistake like some of the richer entries on the menu. I lucked out.
The Tiramisu Cheesecake was a lighter cake, that didn’t have the heaviness that seems to accompany a lot of the candy and chocolate based cheesecakes at the factory. That, and the coffee flavor balanced the richness of the cheesecake nicely, forming a blend of good, but not overwhelming flavor. I will definitely get this cheesecake again.

The Cheesecake Factory: White Chocolate Caramel Macadamia Nut Cheesecake

So, it has been way too long since I last posted here. I’m a bit behind, and plan to make it up with a few posts in a row. To start, I want to explain why I haven’t been writing.

This blog is a lot of fun because of how much I like food, but at the same time, focusing so much on food wasn’t good for me. It was in fact, making my diet harder to maintain, and causing some stress. In order to fix that I stopped focusing so much on food, and am now getting back on track. Here are some things that I have tried recently, and these types of splurge posts will hopefully be less frequent as I try to focus more on healthier eating.
That said, I want to talk about this offering from The Cheesecake Factory. This is the White Chocolate Caramel Macadamia Nut Cheesecake. Now that’s a mouthful in more ways than one. This cake is another one on the intense side. With gooey caramel and a thick crust of sweet nuts at its base, it is one heavy piece of cake. I had to go at this on an empty stomach, and was still defeated. The overall sweetness is great, but once again I was faced with only needing half of the portion I received. Overall, delicious, but still over the top.

The Cheesecake Factory: Godiva® Chocolate Cheesecake

Continuing with my endeavor to try as much cheesecake as I can from The Cheesecake Factory, this past weekend, I went with some friends and got the Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake.

Look at the picture of it. Yes, it looks that good, and terrifying in real life. As expected, it tasted phenomenal. As a chocolate lover, I was in heaven. I’m starting to think that I actually like the things mixed into cheesecakes more than the cheesecakes themselves.

Back to the point. The chocolate cheesecake was just that. It was chocolate on a level out of this world. If you kind of like chocolate, or think you really like chocolate, this cake isn’t for you. This cake is only for people who LOVE chocolate, and even then it may be hard for them to get through an entire piece (I couldn’t). The layers of chocolate blend together, keeping it interesting to chew, and making you savor the high quality of the chocolate in the cake. This is up there with some of my favorites from the factory. So, if you think you have a passion beyond the norm for chocolate, give this cheesecake a try. See if you really like chocolate enough.

The Cheesecake Factory: Stefanie’s Ultimate Red Velvet Cheesecake™

Continuing with my goal to try every different type of cheesecake offered at The Cheesecake Factory, I tried the Stefanie’s Ultimate Red Velvet Cheesecake this past Saturday. I must admit that I was actually disappointed. I don’t know if it was because I was building it up in my head, or because I got a bad piece, but the dessert just wasn’t up to par.

I actually was prepared to try this cake this time, getting it instead of a lunch. As far as cheesecake goes, it was up to the Factory’s standard, but as a whole, the dessert was lacking. The combination of the cheesecake, and cream cheese frosting was almost overpowering, taking away from the dessert. The red velvet was good, but as a dessert, red velvet cake doesn’t have enough of its own flavor to balance the cheesecake and frosting.

What I ended up with was a dessert that was to rich for me too truly enjoy. Don’t get me wrong, it was still tasty, but in a “I got this at the grocery store” kind of way instead of a nearly eight dollar piece of cake. Still, it was nice to know that some of my purchase went to charity, even if some of my lunch went into the garbage because I wasn’t able to finish it. This particular cake might be good for the cheesecake lover who can’t get enough of rich cheesy goodness, but not for me. I’m more of a chocolate infused kind of guy.

The Cheesecake Factory: 30th Anniversary Chocolate Cheesecake

This is the second dessert that I have tried at the factory, and I once again made the error of eating lunch before hand (the beer battered fish and chips). Still, this dessert continued with the trend of deliciousness. I should first mention that this wasn’t my first choice off of the menu. I wanted to try the new red velvet themed cheesecake that was advertised, but I missed the key point that it was being released tomorrow (July 30th) for national cheesecake day. The 30th anniversary cheesecake had a bit more traditional experience than the outrageous cake, with it’s tiers of cheesecake, fudge cake, and truffle cream. The cake was again perfect, not overly sweet, but just right. The texture was great as well, serving as a balance between the light and fluffy cheesecake, and the dense fudge cake. The traditional pairing of chocolate and cheesecake was great in this particular dessert. I still need to try more, but this was another tasty treat from the Cheesecake Factory.

The Cheesecake Factory: Chris’ Outrageous Chocolate Cake™

So, the first dessert that I tried at the Cheesecake Factory wasn’t even technically a cheesecake. I tried Chris’ Outrageous Chocolate Cake. The first thing I need to say about this is that it is either a meal in itself, or to be shared with four other people. I tried it after enjoying a healthy portion of the pulled pork sandwich, and was defeated after only half of the massive slice that I was given. Even so, it was worth being too stuffed to walk. The cake is made up of layers of chocolate fudge cake, brownie, cheesecake (of course), and pecan frosting. It was to die for. Even with all of this chocolate, it wasn’t overbearingly sweet, but instead chewy and delicious. As a side note, the cake is extremely dense and heavy. This was definitely one of my favorite desserts of all time, and only the first of such that I have tried at the factory.
